   You get a lot of music for a low price; but these are not the best four albums from this period: Saxophone Colossus is a must of course, and Plus-4 has its merits (in particular the fine trumpet playing of Clifford Brown) but the two volumes of Sonny Rollins are merely average compared to some of the other great material Rollins was producing /5(17).

   In short: this is probably the best-sounding issue ever of "Plus 4", but at its price I really think it should be better still. For those who don't know if they need this album: Clifford Brown's trumpet was the voice of God, and on this occasion, Sonny Rollins was drawing his inspiration from the same source.
